Epileptic Power Supply: Abia Sets to Disconnect off National Grid, Makes Preparation for Sufficient Electricity Plants
Abia Governor, Alex Otti says his commissioner for power is currently in the Netherlands negotiating a deal that would make the southeastern Nigerian state fully energy-independent, calling it a private enterprise his administration is actively backing.
“Detach the entire state from the national grid. That’s our vision,” Otti said at a recent event.
He added that the government’s support for the initiative was motivated by public interest: “It is all for us.”
The move signals a growing push by Nigerian state governments to bypass the country’s chronically unstable national electricity network.
