‎OYRLEA Cracks Down on Roadside Trading, Arrests Six Defiant Traders in Ibadan

‎The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has intensified its enforcement drive against illegal street trading, arresting six traders during a coordinated operation across major markets in Ibadan.

‎The enforcement, carried out in collaboration with the Oyo State Environmental Task Force, the Nigeria Police Force, and Amotekun corps, targeted indiscriminate roadside trading that continues to obstruct traffic and endanger public safety.

‎Enforcement teams moved through key commercial hubs including Challenge, Oja’ba, Oje Market, and Mokola, removing goods displayed along road corridors, setbacks, and pedestrian walkways.

‎During the operation, six traders were apprehended for violating established roadside trading regulations.

‎Authorities also disclosed that the individuals resisted enforcement efforts and assaulted officials while on duty.

‎Speaking on the development, the Chairperson of OYRLEA, Honorable Justice Aderonke Aderemi (Rtd.), through her Chief of Staff, Iyabo Akinbode, described the persistence of roadside trading as unacceptable.

‎She emphasized that such practices are not only unlawful but also pose significant risks to lives and property, noting that trading on roadways exposes both traders and commuters to avoidable dangers.

‎Justice Aderemi reiterated that the agency remains committed to enforcing compliance, stressing that adherence to environmental and traffic laws is non-negotiable.
