‎Open Grazing Nears End in Nigeria: Federal Government to Deploy Ranching Strategy in Kwara to End Rural Violence

‎The Federal Government, through the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Muktar Maiha, announced the accelerated rollout of the National Ranching Programme in Kwara State following recent deadly attacks.

‎The initiative emphasises ranching, livestock enumeration, digital tagging, and structured settlements to promote sedentarisation, enhance traceability, improve disease control, strengthen law enforcement intelligence, and address long-term rural insecurity.

‎Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, welcomed the federal intervention, pledging collaboration to integrate local governments, ensure ownership, and support swift implementation.

‎The FG noted that structured ranching will stabilise rural communities, boost food security, improve livestock productivity, strengthen market integration, and create broader economic opportunities.
