‎The Oyo State Government has approved the inclusion of civil servants’ dependents in the state health insurance scheme, expanding coverage beyond individual workers.

‎The new policy allows civil servants to enroll their families, a shift from the previous arrangement.

‎The approval was announced by the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), Dr. Olusola Akande, while outlining people-oriented health initiatives for the year 2026.

‎Dr. Akande said the enrollment of dependents will commence this month, marking a new phase for the scheme.

‎OYSHIA also plans to broaden its benefit package from March 2026. The expansion will include coverage for dialysis and chemotherapy, addressing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases.

‎Under the new arrangement, civil servants can enroll their spouses and up to four children. And this expansion, he said, was made possible through the political and technical support of Governor Seyi Makinde.

‎In addition, the agency is extending comprehensive medical checkups to civil servants on Grade Level 12 and above.

‎Previously, such checkups were limited to permanent secretaries and political office holders.

‎Dr. Akande further revealed plans to introduce coverage for colonoscopy, a procedure that currently costs about ₦150,000.

‎He described the move as a major step toward improving preventive healthcare in the state.

‎Overall, the expanded health insurance policy underscores the Oyo State Government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for civil servants and their families, reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses, and strengthening preventive and specialized care across the state.
