Breaking: Davido Bets $25,000 (₦36 million) on Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 Opener Against Tanzania
Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has placed a large $25,000 equivalent to (≈ ₦36 million) bet on Nigeria’s opening matchat the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Tanzania.
He posted a photo of his Stake app betting slipon his X (formerly Twitter) page with the caption: “Let’s get this W Nigeria.”
The bet is on both teams to score, and if it wins, the potential payout is around $96,564 (≈ ₦140 million).
This isn’t the first time Davido has publicly backed the Super Eagles with his money. Before Nigeria’s recent 2026 FIFA World Cup play-off match against Gabon, he placed $10,000 (≈ ₦15 million) on a Nigeria win and both teams scoring — but Nigeria ended up losing that game.
Fans reacted in mixed ways, with some seeing his big bet as his passion for the national team, while others joked about his loyalty. As a well-known ambassador for the Stake platform, some people also view the wager as promotional.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will play the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in Group C of AFCON 2025 at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco on Tuesday, December 23. Nigeria are among the favourites to advance, while Tanzania (ranked much lower) have never beaten Nigeria in a competitive match — but Nigeria’s recent failure to qualify for the World Cup has left fans feeling cautious.
