Aborisade Rejects ADC Candidate List, Says Oyo Governorship Ticket Is in Court
Barrister Chief Niyi Aborisade, the African Democratic Congress deputy governorship candidate in Oyo State, has rejected the recently published list of governorship and deputy governorship candidates released by the party, describing it as a misrepresentation of the situation in the state.
Aborisade said the Oyo State governorship ticket was already before the court, stressing that the legal battle over the party’s candidate was far from over.
He maintained that Dr Gbemileke Alagbe Eleniyan won the ADC governorship primary held on May 22, 2026, while he came second in the exercise.
According to him, Alagbe subsequently picked him as his running mate, adding that he had been issued a Certified True Copy of the relevant primary election documents.
Aborisade said it was therefore surprising when the Independent National Electoral Commission published the name of Oloye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke as the ADC governorship candidate for Oyo State.
He alleged that Adegoke had publicly admitted to manipulating the process to get his name and the names of others included, despite their alleged absence from the INEC list.
Describing the development as a “great assault on democracy,” Aborisade said he and his camp had approached the court to seek appropriate redress.
He expressed confidence that the judiciary would resolve the matter and that justice would ultimately prevail.
The ADC deputy governorship candidate also urged party members and supporters not to lose hope or become agitated over the controversy.
“We are appealing to all our members and supporters to remain calm. We will soon be on the ballot, and the positive change that we are promising you will become a reality,” he said.
Aborisade further disclosed that his camp would commence its campaign soon, expressing optimism that the Alagbe-Aborisade ticket would emerge victorious in the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
He called on ADC supporters to remain steadfast, ending with the party’s rallying cry: “ADC, Arise and Shine, for your light has come.”
