FG Excludes Governor Makinde From Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road Flag-Off, Oyo Government Reacts
The Oyo State Government has expressed displeasure over the exclusion of Governor Seyi Makinde from the flag-off ceremony of the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road Dualisation Project held at Idi Ayunre in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state on Monday.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the state government described the exclusion of the governor from the event as an unnecessary politicisation of a major infrastructure project.
Oyelade said the ceremony, which was attended by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; Minister of Works, David Umahi; APC governorship candidate, Sarafadeen Alli; and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, fell short of the expected significance of the occasion because of what he described as a political undertone.
According to the commissioner, the explanation that Governor Makinde was not invited because he was on annual leave made the situation more difficult to understand, particularly as there is a functional Acting Governor in the state.
He said the state government viewed the development as an attempt to introduce politics into a project that is expected to have significant economic and developmental benefits for Oyo State and the wider South-West.
Oyelade, however, said Governor Makinde remained unperturbed by the development, adding that the governor regretted that the ceremony had been reduced to what he described as a political jamboree.
He maintained that the state government would continue to support projects that promote development and improve connectivity, irrespective of political considerations.
“The course of 2027 is set, and no level of indecorum or desperation from whatever quarters will hold back the will of the people,” the commissioner said.
