FG Deploys Passport Intervention Team To UK To Clear Backlog

The Federal Government has deployed a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to fast track the processing of pending, new and renewal applications by Nigerians in the diaspora.

The team, dispatched by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on the directive of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is expected to arrive in the UK on Monday and work with the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate passport enrolment and processing.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the NIS said the team would visit designated cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and process applications.

The intervention is open to Nigerians with pending passport applications, new applicants, as well as those whose passports have less than one year to expiry and wish to renew them.

The service said applicants would be required to present their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment.

The NIS added that it would release a detailed schedule for the exercise, including the designated cities, dates, venues, enrolment times and other arrangements.

It advised applicants not to proceed to any location until the schedule is officially released, urging them to monitor the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK for further information.
