Chad To Grant Visa-Free Entry To All African Citizens From 2027

The Republic of Chad has announced plans to remove visa requirements for all African citizens, with the new policy set to take effect on January 1, 2027.

Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby said the decision was aimed at strengthening African unity and promoting greater integration among countries on the continent.

According to him, the policy will help make the free movement of people and goods across Africa a practical reality by easing restrictions on travel between Chad and other African countries.

With the announcement, Chad will become the eighth African country to adopt a blanket visa-free entry policy for citizens of other African nations.

Other countries that have introduced similar open-door policies include Benin Republic, The Gambia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya and Togo.

In May, Togo also announced that African citizens holding valid passports could enter the country without visas, further advancing efforts toward greater freedom of movement across the continent.
