Finally: Oyo’s Surveillance Aircraft Arrive in Ibadan, Ready to Boost Security Operations
The two surveillance aircraft acquired by the Oyo State Government have arrived in Ibadan, fulfilling the administration’s commitment that they would be delivered before the end of July.
The arrival of the aircraft marks a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security through enhanced intelligence gathering, aerial surveillance and rapid response to criminal activities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the development demonstrates the Makinde administration’s resolve to deploy modern technology in tackling the state’s security challenges.
He recalled that the state government announced the acquisition of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of a comprehensive strategy to improve the operational capacity of security agencies across Oyo State.
According to Oyelade, Governor Seyi Makinde had on July 18, 2026, disclosed that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final deployment to the state.
The commissioner noted that the government had recently assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo State before the end of July, adding that their arrival has fulfilled that promise.
He explained that the aircraft would enhance the operations of security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, the Police, the military and other relevant security formations by providing real-time aerial intelligence to aid surveillance, tracking and coordinated responses to criminal activities.
”The arrival of the surveillance aircraft is another demonstration of Governor Makinde’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through the deployment of modern security infrastructure. The aircraft will significantly improve intelligence gathering and strengthen the capacity of security agencies to combat crime across the state,” Oyelade said.
The commissioner further disclosed that Governor Makinde was personally on hand at the airport to receive the aircraft, describing the development as another major investment in the state’s security architecture.
The acquisition of the surveillance aircraft is expected to complement other security initiatives of the Oyo State Government aimed at curbing kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal mining and other criminal activities, particularly in vulnerable communities and forest areas across the state.
