Over 1,000 Retired Oyo Teachers Begin to Receive Gratuities
More than 1,000 retired primary school teachers and local government workers across Oyo State have begun receiving their gratuities and death benefits following the approval of an increased payment fund by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The beneficiaries received their entitlements during a ceremony held at the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The latest disbursement is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to clear outstanding retirement benefits owed to retired public servants.
The payment exercise follows Governor Makinde’s recent approval of an increase in the monthly gratuity payment fund from ₦2 billion to ₦3 billion to accelerate the settlement of retirees’ entitlements.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ige, said the administration has remained steadfast in fulfilling its promises to retirees since assuming office in 2019.
Some of the beneficiaries, many of whom had waited several years to receive their gratuities, expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Government, describing the payment as timely relief.
They said the funds would go a long way in addressing pressing needs, including healthcare, family responsibilities and other financial commitments accumulated after retirement.
