My Late Father Was the Only Person Who Could Look Me in the Eyes and Tell Me the Truth – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has paid an emotional tribute to his late father, Pa Olatunbosun Makinde, describing him as the only person who could look him in the eyes and tell him the truth, even when it was difficult to accept.

The governor made the remark on Sunday during the 14th memorial service held in honour of his father at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.

Reflecting on his father’s life and influence, Makinde described the late patriarch as a candid adviser, trusted confidant, and close companion whose guidance he still deeply misses.

Delivering the sermon, the Bishop of the Ibadan North Diocese, Rt. Rev. Williams Aladekugbe, described the late Pa Olatunbosun Makinde as a devoted Christian who dedicated his life to the service of God, the Church, and humanity. He noted that the deceased remained a committed member of the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, throughout his lifetime and urged Christians to emulate his unwavering faith, humility, and selfless service.

The bishop also congratulated Governor Makinde on the recent rescue of the abducted teachers and pupils from Oriire Local Government Area, commending his administration for sustaining peace and stability across Oyo State over the past seven years. He added that the governor’s political future remains in the hands of God.

Following the church service, Governor Makinde, accompanied by his elder brother, Chief Muyiwa Makinde, laid wreaths at the graves of their late parents, Pa Olatunbosun Makinde and Madam Abigail Makinde, who passed away on October 15, 2020.

The memorial service drew family members, government officials, political associates, religious leaders, and well-wishers, who gathered to celebrate the enduring legacy of the late Pa Makinde, remembered for his integrity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to God and society.
