Police Recover Tricycle Stolen at Gunpoint, Begin Process to Return It to Owner
Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a 31-year-old suspected armed robber, Akindele Seun, and recovered a tricycle allegedly stolen at gunpoint in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation by the Command Monitoring Unit after receiving credible information from members of the public that a suspected stolen tricycle was being driven along the Oyo–Ogbomoso Road.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, operatives swiftly mounted the operation at the Irepo area, where they intercepted the tricycle bearing registration number Lagos EPE 236 QR and arrested the suspect.
The police said the suspect confessed during interrogation to robbing the owner of the tricycle at gunpoint in Ilorin before fleeing with the vehicle into Oyo State.
The recovered tricycle has been taken into police custody, while efforts are ongoing to trace and identify its rightful owner to facilitate its return. The Command added that investigations are also underway to arrest other persons connected with the crime.
Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Oyo State does not become a safe haven for criminals.
He said individuals who commit crimes within or outside the state and attempt to move the proceeds or instruments of crime into Oyo State would continue to be identified, arrested, investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law, regardless of where the offences were committed.
The commissioner also assured residents of the Command’s resolve to deny criminal elements any operating space in the state and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support efforts at protecting lives and property.
