Just In: Oyo Police Arrest Suspects in Ojoo Violent Disturbance, Says Deceased, 3 Others Allegedly Attempt to Dispossess POS Operator

‎The Oyo State Police Command said it has restored normalcy to the Strabag area of Ojoo, Ibadan, following a violent disturbance that erupted in the area on Wednesday, while also confirming the arrest of four suspects in connection with the incident.

‎Speaking with newsmen via telephone call on Thursday, the command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed four young men arrived at a Point of Sale outlet in the area at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday to purchase Internet data but allegedly attempted to rob the operator of his POS Machine which led to the lynching of one suspect identified as Abeeb Olajide who later died in hospital.

‎The police spokesperson noted that the incident triggered tension in the community as aggrieved groups mobilised for a reprisal attack, resulting in a breakdown of law and order leading to the deployment of security operatives and eventual restoration of peace and calm in the area.

‎DSP Ayanlade further noted that the four arrested suspects in connection with the unrest which led to loss of lives and property in the area have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan for further investigation.

‎The Police command warned against jungle justice and acts capable of inciting ethnic or communal tension while assuring the public that those found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

‎Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government has called for calm over the incident at Ojoo and ordered a thorough investigation into the killings and arson.
