One Killed, Nine Injured as IED Hits Passenger Trailer in Borno
An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated after being struck by a trailer conveying passengers along the Komala village axis in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing one person and injuring nine others.
The incident was disclosed by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post on his X handle on Friday.
According to Makama, police sources said the explosion occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on July 2 when the trailer, driven by Isa Uba, was travelling from Maiduguri to Damboa.
The sources said the explosive device was suspected to have been planted along the route by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
One passenger died instantly in the blast, while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Makama further disclosed that a joint emergency response team, comprising military personnel, police tactical units, Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) operatives, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters, was swiftly deployed to the scene.
According to him, the injured victims were evacuated to a hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was also taken to the hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed the death before the remains were released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
He added that EOD personnel secured and cleared the area after the explosion, while security forces intensified combing operations across the vicinity to forestall further attacks by terrorists.
