Employment Opportunities: Oyo Sets for 500 New Jobs as Governor Makinde Announced Sugar Factory Nears Commencement
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the commencement of operations at the Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited factory in Iseyin will create over 500 direct jobs and provide business opportunities for about 1,000 sugarcane farmers across the state.
The governor disclosed this in a post on his verified X handle after meeting over the weekend with a delegation from India-based Saba Exports Ltd., an advanced sugar industrial technology company, led by its Managing Director, Khan Waseem Akhlaq.
According to governor Makinde, the team is in Oyo State to oversee the pre-commissioning and commissioning phases of the privately-owned sugar processing facility.
Makinde expressed optimism that the factory would soon commence operations, noting that the investment would strengthen the state’s agro-industrial sector, create employment opportunities and improve the livelihoods of sugarcane farmers through strategic partnerships.
The Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited factory is projected to produce between 24 and 27 tonnes of brown sugar daily, as well as 18 tonnes of molasses, making it one of the state’s key industrial investments expected to contribute significantly to economic growth.
