Oyo Approves ₦5.9 Billion SAfER Package to Sustain Health Insurance, Food Security Programmes
The Oyo State Government has approved the sum of ₦5.9 Billion for the implementation of the 2026 work plan under the Health Insurance and Food Security components of its Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) programme.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a press release to journalists.
According to him, the approval followed the successful implementation of the previous SAfER initiative, which was introduced by Governor Seyi Makinde to cushion the economic impact of the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Oyelade recalled that the programme had provided relief to residents through reduced transportation fares for workers, elderly citizens and other vulnerable groups, as well as food support distributed across the state, health care programmes, Amongst others.
The commissioner said the Sate government resolved that the intervention should continue, noting that the economic hardship being experienced by citizens had yet to ease.
Consequently, the Council approved the release of over ₦5.9 billion to sustain the health insurance and food security components of the programme in 2026, with the aim of providing continued support for vulnerable residents and improving access to essential services.
