‎Mobil Market Traders Cry Out Over Demolition of their Shops; Seek Makinde, Olubadan Intervention

‎Traders at the popular Mobil Market along Ring Road, Ibadan, have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, to intervene following the demolition of their shops by the Oyo State Government over claims that the area had become a haven for criminal activities.

‎The exercise, carried out by the state government as part of efforts to strengthen security and restore order in the area, is said to have left several traders stranded and unable to continue their daily businesses, with many describing the development as devastating.

‎The affected traders said the demolition has displaced hundreds of business owners, leaving many families without income and deepening economic hardship on them.

‎Speaking during a visit to the site, several traders expressed deep concern over the development, describing the market as the economic lifeline of hundreds of families.

‎They said the demolition came as a rude shock, leaving them without shops, goods and a place to conduct their daily businesses.

‎While acknowledging the government’s responsibility to tackle security challenges and rid the environment of criminal elements, the traders insisted that innocent business owners should not be made to bear the full consequences of the action.

‎They therefore appealed to Governor Makinde to provide alternative trading locations and consider measures that would help affected traders rebuild their businesses and recover from their losses.

‎The traders also called on the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, to intervene on their behalf and engage the relevant authorities to find a lasting solution to their plight.

‎As the dust settles on the demolished market, traders say they are now counting losses running into millions of naira, while others are left scavenging through the debris of what used to be their shops in a desperate attempt to put together whatever remains of their goods.
