‎Residents Desert Oloka Town, Social-Economic Activities Collapse After Deadly Bandits Attack on National Park Officers In Oyo State

‎Less than 48 hours after a deadly attack on National Park Service officers, Oloka town in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State has been largely deserted as residents fled in fear for their lives.

‎The exodus followed the killing of five National Park Service officers by suspected bandits who invaded the park’s office late Tuesday night.

‎Oloka streets are currently empty and houses are put under lock and key, as commercial and social activities completely disrupted following killings of Five Forest Guards by armed bandits in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

‎Residents who spoke on the incident expressed deep fear and uncertainty, lamenting that the attack had crippled their livelihoods and forced families to seek refuge in neighbouring communities.

‎According to them, the assailants arrived at the National Park Service office around 10 p.m on the day of the incident and they were about 12 in number.

‎They appealed to the state government and security agencies to urgently establish permanent security posts in Oloka to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.

‎Chairman of Orire Local Government Area, Mr. Micheal Alabi, assured residents that decisive steps are being taken to address the security situation.

‎He said the local government is working round the clock to rejig the security architecture and restore peace in the area.

‎The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Haruna, who visited the scene alongside other senior police officers to assess the situation firsthand, assured residents that security agencies would intensify surveillance in the affected local council.

Recall that the Oyo State governor, engineer Seyi Makinde had confirmed the attack and promised decisive action against the perpetrators of the dastardly act.


‎He then vowed that the perpetrators would be apprehended, and urged displaced residents to return as efforts to restore normalcy continue.
