Seven Federal Poly students abducted in Zamfara
The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of seven students of Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, by suspected bandits.
The students were reportedly kidnapped from their hostel in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area in the early hours of Wednesday.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Yazid Abubakar, said the incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on June 3, 2026.
According to him, the armed assailants stormed the students’ residence and whisked away seven students to an unknown destination, while one of the victims managed to escape.
Abubakar said security operatives responded swiftly to the incident after receiving a distress call.
He explained that joint tactical teams of the police and military personnel attached to Operation Fansan Yamma were immediately mobilised to the scene.
However, he noted that the kidnappers had fled before the arrival of the security operatives.
“The students were abducted at their residence in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda at about 0400hrs and taken to an unknown destination. One victim escaped from the abductors,” the statement said.
“The Joint Police Tactical Teams and military personnel attached to Operation Fansan Yamma in Kaura Namoda were mobilised to the scene, but the hoodlums had already fled before their arrival.”
The police spokesperson assured that efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Efforts are also ongoing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of this criminal act,” he added.
The latest abduction highlights the persistent security challenges facing parts of Zamfara State, where bandit attacks, kidnappings and other criminal activities have continued despite intensified security operations in the region.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information that could assist security agencies in rescuing the victims and apprehending the suspects.
