Four NYSC Members Die in Adamawa Road Crash
Four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were among six persons who lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Girei–Song Highway in Adamawa State.
The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon and involved a military vehicle and a commercial Hummer bus. Both vehicles reportedly burst into flames following the collision.
In addition to the four corps members, a soldier and another passenger were also killed in the accident.
Reports indicated that the military vehicle was travelling from Gombi to Yola, while the commercial bus, carrying five passengers, was en route from Yola to Mubi.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, said the crash occurred in the Narehi area of Girei–Song Local Government Area.
“Tragically, all five passengers aboard the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire following the collision,” he said.
“Preliminary identification shows that four of the deceased were members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Adamawa State.”
Nguroje identified two of the victims as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu.
He disclosed that the bodies of the victims had been deposited at the Specialist Hospital in Yola, while efforts were ongoing to identify the remaining victims and contact their families.
The police spokesperson added that investigations into the cause of the accident were continuing.
