End Terrorism Within 90 Days or Resign, Adeboye Tells Security Chiefs

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to Nigeria’s security chiefs to end terrorism and insecurity across the country or resign from their positions.

Adeboye made the call in a video shared on his official X handle on Tuesday, expressing deep concern over the worsening security situation and the persistent attacks by terrorists and other criminal elements.

The revered cleric said security chiefs must be held accountable for tangible results in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes threatening national stability.

“You can only advise the Commander-in-Chief; you cannot command him. If you command the Commander-in-Chief, then you become the commander of the Commander-in-Chief, and that does not make sense,” Adeboye said.

“But if I were asked to make suggestions, I would quietly tell the government to move fast and tell the security chiefs to get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign.”

Adeboye further urged the government to go beyond tackling terrorists and ensure that those sponsoring violent activities are identified and brought to justice, regardless of their status or influence.

“When giving directives to the service chiefs, it should be made clear that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists but also their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” he stated.

The RCCG General Overseer recalled that a former Nigerian president had once issued a similar directive to security chiefs, giving them a deadline to end the Boko Haram insurgency or step down from office.

“There was a president, now late, who summoned the service chiefs and gave them three months to get rid of Boko Haram or resign. He acted on the advice, but unfortunately did not follow through completely after the deadline elapsed,” Adeboye said.

According to him, security operatives responded swiftly following the directive, a development that convinced him of the effectiveness of clear targets and accountability in addressing insecurity.

Adeboye explained that his recommendation was informed by past experiences and his conviction that decisive leadership is required to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges.

The cleric’s remarks were originally made during the November 2025 Holy Ghost Service while addressing concerns over religious violence and insecurity in the country. The video resurfaced after he reposted it on social media amid allegations that he had endorsed a political party or campaigned for a particular government.

Meanwhile, RCCG has defended its General Overseer against what it described as persistent falsehoods and deliberate misrepresentations of his views on national issues.

In a statement released through its official public relations handle on X, the church said it would no longer remain silent in the face of inaccurate narratives surrounding Adeboye’s comments and activities.

The church maintained that Adeboye has consistently encouraged civic responsibility and national development without endorsing any political party or candidate.

It also rejected claims that the cleric has remained silent on critical national issues, noting that he has repeatedly spoken on insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance and the need for righteous leadership.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye has, on several occasions, spoken on national issues. However, he often chooses the language of moral guidance, prayer and counsel rather than partisan political confrontation,” the statement said.

The church added that many of the allegations being circulated by some commentators, bloggers and media platforms were based on misinformation and a misunderstanding of the cleric’s position on governance and public affairs.
