Governor Makinde Meets Families of Abducted Teachers, Pupils, Assures Safe Return of Victims

 

Oyo State Governor, engineer Seyi Makinde hss met with families of teachers and pupils abducted during a recent attack on schools in Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area, assuring them that ongoing efforts by security agencies would lead to the safe return of their loved ones.

The governor, who addressed the families, community leaders and residents at the open field of Ahoro-Esiele LA Basic School, appealed for patience and cooperation as the government intensifies efforts to rescue the victims.

He said his administration remains fully committed to securing the release of all the abductees and reuniting them with their families.

Makinde acknowledged the pain and anxiety being experienced by the affected families, noting that no words could adequately comfort them at such a difficult time.

He, however, assured them that the state government would continue to deploy every available resource towards achieving a successful rescue operation.

According to the governor, security agencies have sustained coordinated efforts since the incident occurred, with regular reviews of intelligence and operational strategies aimed at ensuring the safe return of the victims.

He added that he has been personally involved in overseeing the rescue efforts through frequent engagements with security chiefs.

Makinde also noted the sacrifices being made by security personnel in the fight against crime and insecurity, disclosing that many operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, have lost their lives in the course of protecting lives and property across the state.

He described the abduction of innocent schoolchildren and teachers as unfortunate, cruel and unacceptable, stressing that no grievance could justify such actions.

The governor assured residents that the government would not relent until the victims regain their freedom.

During the meeting, family members of the abductees appealed to the governor to do everything possible to secure the release of their loved ones.

Among them was Professor Wole Alamu, husband of the abducted school principal, Mrs. Funmilayo Ojo, whose daughter-in-law and four grandchildren are among those being held captive.

The governor later held a private meeting with the affected families, where he reassured them of the government’s determination to secure the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils.

He urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with useful information that could aid the rescue operation.
