Cooking Gas Price Hits ₦1,500 Per Kg as Scarcity Deepens Nationwide

Nigerians may be forced to pay more for domestic cooking gas following a fresh increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, across the country. Marketers have attributed the development to worsening scarcity and supply challenges affecting the sector.

The Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers disclosed that the price of cooking gas has risen from about ₦1,200 to over ₦1,500 per kilogram in several parts of the country, particularly in Abuja. The increase represents a 25 percent jump in price, adding further pressure on Nigerians already battling rising living costs and economic hardship.

In a joint statement issued by the association’s President, Edu Inyang, and Executive Secretary, Bassey Essien, the marketers described the current situation as alarming. According to them, cooking gas, which they described as a basic household necessity, has become increasingly unaffordable for many citizens due to the persistent surge in prices.

The association warned that continued increases in cooking gas prices could trigger public frustration and anger against gas station operators if urgent intervention is not made by the Federal Government.

They called on relevant authorities to address the scarcity and stabilize supply in order to ease the burden on consumers nationwide.
