BREAKING: Federal Government Scraps UTME Requirement for NCE Candidates
The Federal Government has announced that candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes in colleges of education will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Monday during the 2026 policy meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.
Under the new directive, prospective NCE candidates will now be admitted based on a minimum of four credit passes in their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent, removing the need for UTME registration and examination.
The policy, according to the minister, is aimed at reducing the administrative workload on JAMB and streamlining the admission process for teacher education programmes across the country.
More details are expected to be provided by the Ministry of Education in the coming days.
