FG Announces Partial Closure of Ikorodu-Sagamu Road for Reconstruction
The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a partial closure of sections of the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road beginning Monday, as ongoing reconstruction works enter a critical phase.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr. Olayiwola Komolafe, said the temporary closure was necessary to allow contractors complete key sections of the highway.
According to him, the directive followed an order by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, instructing Messrs Arab Contractors to immediately resume work on strategic portions of the road to ensure timely delivery of the project.
The affected areas include the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos, as well as the section from Cement to Coca-Cola inward Sagamu.
Komolafe explained that vehicles travelling from Ikorodu to Sagamu would be redirected through the construction corridors under a counterflow traffic arrangement.
He added that the reconstruction work is expected to last for three months, allowing contractors sufficient time to complete the project and ensure proper curing of the rigid pavement.
To ease traffic congestion during the period, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed to manage vehicular movement along the affected routes.
The controller appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and law enforcement officers throughout the duration of the project.
He also expressed regret over the inconvenience the reconstruction work may cause commuters, assuring road users that the project is aimed at improving the condition and safety of the highway.
