Satguru Maharaj Ji Cautions Gov. Makinde Over ‘Operation Wetie’ Remark, Calls for Political Restraint & National Unity
Founder of One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has cautioned Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, over his reference to “Operation Wetie” during a recent political summit in Ibadan, urging restraint in political communication.
In a statement issued by the spiritual leader, he warned against comments that could deepen ethnic suspicion or inflame political tension in the country.
“We love Seyi Makinde nodoubt about that, he should, however, be asked to tread softly.” “He should not be used as cannon folder against Yoruba race.” “The battle ground should not be Oyo state.”
“As bad as Buharis government was no state in the North was used to launch any form of atack against him.”
Yorubas says “Ti aba nsokun a ma riran” Makinde already has his place in Oyo State politics but Oyo people are not dogmatic when it comes to leadership and followership.”
“If the narrative is indeed attributable to Governor Seyi Makinde, it would be important for him to exercise caution, bearing in mind that political power is transient and accountability remains central to democratic leadership”
Recall that Governor Makinde had earlier stirred controversy during a national opposition summit in Ibadan where he referenced Nigeria’s turbulent political history while warning against the dangers of one-party domination.
His remarks reportedly drew on “Operation Wetie,” a violent political crisis that rocked Nigeria’s Western Region in the 1960s, with Ibadan as its epicentre, especially when it is becoming clear that the North wants, once again to field a Presidential candidate in total nullification of the 8 years regime change which is to expire in 2031 for the South.
The reference has continued to generate mixed reactions, with some interpreting it as a historical warning about democratic backsliding, while others view it as a sensitive and potentially inflammatory political analogy, because those who tried Operation Wetie in the past never reached their peaks.
“Operation Wetie” is widely remembered as a period of intense political violence marked by arson, retaliation, and deep political rivalry during Nigeria’s First Republic. Satguru noted that the phrase remains highly sensitive in Nigerian political discourse due to its association with one of the country’s most volatile historical episodes.
Since the governor’s comments emerged, reactions have continued to pour in from political actors, civil society groups, and opinion leaders across the country. Maharaj Ji argue that invoking such a charged historical term risks reopening old wounds, while supporters insist Makinde was merely emphasizing the need to protect Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.
Satguru Maharaj Ji, therefore, added a spiritual and moral dimension to the debate, reinforcing calls for moderation in political speech.
His warning and Caution message to Governor Makinde reflects broader concerns about rising political tension as Nigeria navigates a complex democratic landscape.
Calls for calm have since intensified, with eminent personalities across Nigeria urging political leaders to prioritize unity and constructive engagement over divisive rhetoric.
”The controversy underscores the enduring influence of Nigeria’s political history on present-day conversations and the need for careful communication by public officials.” Says Satguru Maharaj Ji.
NO OPERATION WETIE AGAIN OMO AJOROSUN. THOSE WHO TRIED IT IN THE PAST NEVER REACHED THEIR PEAK
My Love and Blessings
