Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf Lays Foundation for #1.3 Billion Secondary School
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new secondary school in Kaura Goge, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.
The project is set to replace the well-known Maikwatashi School, which had fallen into disrepair and was reportedly affected by encroachment, with portions of its land allegedly sold illegally by some individuals.
Governor Yusuf said the decision to build the new school followed complaints from residents and the need to provide accessible educational facilities for children in the community.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, Yusuf explained that ownership of the former Maikwatashi School had been transferred to the Kano State College of Arts and Islamic Studies for educational purposes.
He added that the new school would reduce the hardship faced by students in the area, many of whom currently travel long distances to attend schools in Sabon Gari and other neighbouring communities.
“There are many students in this area who have to go to Sabon Gari for schooling. That is why we want to build a school here,” the governor said.
Yusuf also urged residents to cooperate with the contractor handling the project to ensure its timely completion. He further warned the contractor to maintain high standards and deliver quality work in line with the approved specifications.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, revealed that the project would cost ₦1.3 billion.
He said the school would contain 32 classrooms, 36 toilets, four libraries, and other supporting facilities.
Makoda described the foundation-laying ceremony as evidence of the governor’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises in the education sector.
