Confrontation in Oyo Assembly as Many A Lawmaker Push for Speaker’s Impeachment, Resignation Over Rumoured Attempt to Unseat Gov. Makinde
Fresh tension has reportedly gripped the Oyo State House of Assembly following claims that some lawmakers are pushing for the impeachment or resignation of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin over an alleged attempt to unseat Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to Oyo Periscope News, the development came to the fore during a closed door meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party caucus in the Assembly on Thursday, where tempers were said to have flared.
What was expected to be a routine political gathering allegedly turned confrontational, exposing divisions within the ruling party.
Sources familiar with the meeting said lawmakers were sharply divided over the future of the Assembly’s leadership and the direction of political events in the state.
According to the report, some influential figures believed to be loyal to the governor are backing moves to either remove the Speaker or pressure him to resign.
The lawmakers pushing the move were said to have based their position on rumours that the Speaker was involved in a plot to unseat Governor Makinde.
However, several members of the Assembly reportedly described the allegations as unproven and politically motivated.
The situation has heightened concerns over possible instability in the House and growing cracks within the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State.
The report also claimed that powerful individuals close to the state leadership may be influencing the crisis behind the scenes, further fuelling speculation of an internal power struggle.
The unfolding development has sparked calls for Governor Makinde to urgently intervene in order to calm tensions, preserve party unity and prevent the matter from degenerating into a wider political crisis.
