‘Repentant Boko Haram insurgent’ kills CJTF operative during dispute in Borno

An operative of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has been shot dead by a suspected repentant Boko Haram member following a dispute in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred on Friday at about 10:16 a.m. in Mafa town, after an argument broke out between the two men.

Citing security sources, the report identified the suspect as 20-year-old Abba Gana, who allegedly shot the victim, 25-year-old Adamu Ali, in the chest with an AK-47 rifle.

Ali was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The suspect was subsequently arrested by Abba Sadu, the CJTF commander in Mafa LGA, and handed over to the police.

Security operatives later visited the scene and recovered the weapon used in the attack as evidence.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police in Maiduguri has commenced an investigation into the incident.
