‎Oyo Government Moves to Sanitize All Pacesetter Markets Within Six Months, Ready to Shame Dirtiest Markets

‎The Oyo State Government has announced plans to ensure that all markets across the state are fully sanitized within the next six months as part of efforts to improve environmental hygiene and address climate-related concerns.

‎The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, made this known during a media engagement in Ibadan, the State Capital.

‎Aderinto said the government has already developed a strategy aimed at transforming sanitation conditions in markets, urging traders and market leaders to cooperate with authorities to achieve the goal.

‎To encourage compliance and healthy competition among markets, the commissioner announced that the government would reintroduce the Cleanest Market of the Month award, a programme previously implemented in the state.

‎He added that the initiative may also highlight poorly maintained markets in order to push them toward improvement.

‎The state government urged traders, market associations and residents to support the initiative in order to create a cleaner and healthier environment across Oyo State.
