Osun to Launch Security Trust Fund this Month – Governor Adeleke

Osun State will launch its Security Trust Fund in late March 2026, Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced.

The governor made the disclosure in Oyan town during the commissioning of a modern police station built by AIG (Dr) Aderanti Kayode, stating that the fund is designed to mobilise additional resources to strengthen security across the state.

He emphasised the need for stronger public-private partnership in maintaining security, noting that Nigeria is currently facing significant security challenges. Although Osun remains one of the safest states in the country, he observed that its location within a volatile regional axis requires proactive measures to prevent potential threats.

Governor Adeleke explained that security challenges are intensifying at a time of limited financial capacity for states, putting pressure on governments at all levels to provide adequate equipment, logistics and operational support for security agencies. He said the situation has compelled many states to establish dedicated security trust funds or allocate specific budgetary percentages to security financing.

According to him, Osun is set to join the league of states operating such a fund, with the official launch scheduled for next month. He disclosed that the enabling law establishing the trust fund has been reviewed and signed into law to reflect modern realities and future security needs.

The governor added that key private sector stakeholders are being engaged to support the initiative. He noted that the take-off of the fund will provide critical support to security agencies across the state, including conventional security services as well as the Amotekun Corps, local hunters and neighbourhood watch groups.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke criticised the opposition for allegedly refusing to acknowledge ongoing infrastructure development across the state. He cited road dualisation and construction projects in Ila, Ikirun, Iwo, Osogbo, Ofatedo, Ido-Osun, Ile-Ife and Ilesa, among other communities, as evidence of his administration’s commitment to equitable development.

He maintained that while critics may downplay the projects, residents across towns and villages in Osun are witnessing and benefiting from improved infrastructure and quality of life under his administration.

The statement was signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the State Governor.
