Governor Makinde Orders Relocation Plan for Remaining Street Traders in Ibadan North Within Six Months

Oyo State Governor, engineer Seyi Makinde, has ordered the relocation of remaining street traders operating around the newly inaugurated Bodija Market complex in Ibadan North Local Government Area within the next six months.
The governor gave the directive following the commissioning of the 540-stall modern market and motor park, stating that while some traders are still conducting business on adjoining streets, his administration will not enforce a total ban until alternative stalls are constructed for their relocation.
He therefore directed the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Honorable Seun Olufade, to commence plans for the construction of additional shops and stalls to accommodate those still trading by the roadside, with a six-month timeline for delivery.
The governor also instructed the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Agency to immediately intensify enforcement in areas where adequate provisions have already been made.
He warned that traders who continue to operate on unauthorized spots close to the newly opened complex, despite being allocated free stalls, would be sanctioned accordingly, stressing that compliance is mandatory where government has fulfilled its responsibility.
Governor Makinde further urged traders whose names had been documented for stall allocation to report directly to him if Local Government officials fail to complete the necessary processes, assuring them of transparency and accountability in the distribution exercise.
He then noted that the development underscores his administration’s commitment to structured urban renewal, economic empowerment, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
