“Gone Are the Days That MDAs Will Come to the House With a Package for the House in Order for Us to Amend or to Jack Up a Budget” – Speaker Ogundoyin

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has declared that the era when ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) brought packages to the House to influence budget amendments or increases is over.

Ogundoyin made the declaration at the Stakeholders’ Consultative and Engagement Meeting on the 2027 Budget for Oyo State, organised by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning at Olola Ogunlana Hall, International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Second Gate, Ibadan.

“Gone are the days that MDAs will come to the House with a package for the House in order for us to amend or to jack up a budget,” he declared.

The Speaker, however, clarified that the Assembly could increase budgetary allocations where there were genuine and justifiable reasons.

“Although we do jack up budgets, but only for germane reasons, I can assure you that,” he said.

Ogundoyin reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly to ensuring that the state’s 2027 budget addressed the needs of the people through rigorous scrutiny of budget proposals and effective legislative oversight.

“As the Speaker, I reaffirm, as the Speaker and as the Oyo State House of Assembly, we reaffirm the commitment of the 10th Oyo State House of Assembly to ensuring that the state’s budget addresses the needs of our people through rigorous scrutiny of budget proposals and effective legislative oversight,” he said.

He added that the legislature would continue to promote transparency, accountability and responsible public spending.

The Speaker also commended the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola, and members of the committee for their work in scrutinising budget proposals submitted by ministries, departments and agencies.

Ogundoyin acknowledged that Babalola was young but praised his intelligence and capacity to lead the committee, noting that MDAs appearing before the House could attest to the competence of the chairman and committee members.

“Although he might be young, but I’m sure that all the MDAs that come to the House of Assembly, they see the sagacity and the intelligence of the Chairman and the members of the committee,” he said.

He also appreciated members of the House for their contributions and for upholding the integrity of the legislature.

Ogundoyin described the 2027 budget as particularly significant because it would be the final annual budget of the current administration.
