‎UCH Resident Doctors Begin Three Day Warning Strike Over Nine Month Power Outage
‎
‎Resident doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, have commenced a three day warning strike over a prolonged electricity blackout affecting the College of Medicine residential area.
‎
‎The Association announced the industrial action following an emergency general meeting held virtually to deliberate on the persistent power outage, which it said had lasted for nine months.
‎
‎The Resident doctors at UCH, led by Dr. Uthman Adedeji, said healthcare workers residing in the affected area had been subjected to severe hardship due to the prolonged disruption of electricity supply.
‎
‎It also expressed concern over what it described as inter institutional bottlenecks between the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, and the management of UCH, saying the situation had negatively affected residents and students in the area.
‎
‎According to the association, the persistent blackout had resulted in water shortages, further worsening living conditions for healthcare workers.
‎
‎The doctors said the situation had forced residents to trek long distances, patronise private business centres and spend money out of pocket to transport water for their basic needs.
‎
‎The association consequently appealed to the UCH management to urgently address the electricity crisis and restore a stable power supply to the affected residential area.
‎
‎The three day warning strike, which began on Monday, October 12, 2026, is intended to draw attention to the prolonged hardship experienced by healthcare workers and other residents affected by the blackout.
