GMT Inaugurates 33 LG Excos, Endorses Tinubu, Alli, Oyo APC Candidates for 2027

The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT 2027), Oyo State Chapter, has inaugurated its 33 Local Government Executive Committees and endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The movement also endorsed all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in Oyo State, beginning with the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, pledging to work towards their victory at the polls.

The inauguration and endorsement ceremony was held on Saturday at Watershed Event Centre, Old Ife Road, Ibadan, with members and supporters of the movement from across the state in attendance.

Speaking at the event, the Oyo State Director-General of GMT, Alhaja Princess Aminat Oparemi, assured the national leadership of the movement that the state chapter is committed to mobilising massive support for President Tinubu’s re-election.

Oparemi said, “We are fully prepared to mobilise more than 20 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Our structures across the 33 local government areas are being strengthened to ensure that we deliver on this commitment.”

She added, “Beyond the presidential election, we are also committed to supporting all APC candidates in Oyo State, starting with our governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli. We will take this mobilisation to every ward and community to ensure victory for our candidates.”

Representing the National Director-General of GMT, Hon. Prince Abdulrahman Adebisi Yusuff, popularly known as Bisi Yusuff, Hon. Babatunde, the National Administrative Officer of the movement from its Lagos State Secretariat, said the national leadership is intensifying efforts to secure victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Babatunde maintained that the movement’s mobilisation activities were ongoing around the clock, adding that its structures were being strengthened to ensure that President Tinubu received the necessary grassroots support across the country.

Also speaking, Alhaji Abideen Olajide, popularly known as Ejiogbe, a prominent leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, pledged to mobilise members of the union to support the movement’s political objectives.

Ejiogbe assured the GMT leadership that NURTW members across Oyo State would be mobilised to support President Tinubu and all APC candidates, from the presidential election down to the governorship and other elective positions.

In his remarks, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who supported the movement with a total sum of #6 million, questioned the continued criticism of President Tinubu by some political leaders, particularly those who had acknowledged that the revenue accruing to states from the Federation Account had increased significantly under the present administration.

Alli said, “Some of those criticising President Tinubu have themselves acknowledged that the revenue coming to the states has increased to about four times what they used to receive. If that is the case, why are our people still living in poverty?”

He added, “If states are now receiving substantially more money from the Federal Government, shouldn’t those managing the resources at the state level be held responsible for the continued poverty among the people? This is particularly important in Oyo State, where the people deserve to feel the impact of the resources available to their government.”

The APC governorship candidate argued that increased federal allocations should translate into visible development, improved infrastructure, better social services and improved living conditions for residents.

The ceremony featured several activities, including Certificates’ presentation to the newly Inaugurated Excos members.

The inauguration of the 33 local government executive committees marked another phase in GMT’s grassroots mobilisation efforts in Oyo State as the movement seeks to consolidate its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
