Oyo Police Arrest 29-Year-Old Man Over Alleged ₦2.55m Motorcycle Conversion

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Omoola Afeez Kehinde, over an alleged case of stealing by conversion involving a TVS motorcycle valued at ₦2.55 million.

The arrest followed an investigation into a hire-purchase agreement under which the suspect allegedly collected the motorcycle but failed to make the agreed instalment payments.

According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the complainant reported that the suspect collected the motorcycle on August 2, 2025, under an agreement to pay for it in monthly instalments.

However, the suspect allegedly disappeared after taking possession of the motorcycle, failed to make any payment and remained unreachable. Following unsuccessful attempts to contact him, the complainant petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, seeking police intervention.

In response, the Commissioner of Police assigned the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to investigate the matter.

The police said operatives of the unit subsequently launched an intelligence-driven investigation that led them to Ondo town, Ondo State, where the suspect was arrested on October 23, 2026.

The operation also led to the recovery of the motorcycle, which the police described as a significant breakthrough in the investigation.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the offence, claiming that he had no intention of paying for the motorcycle from the outset.

He reportedly told investigators that he left Oyo State immediately after taking possession of the motorcycle, intending to convert it to his personal property because he believed he would not be traced. He also allegedly disclosed that he had been using the motorcycle for commercial activities.

The police said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue ahead of his arraignment before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to exercise due diligence in commercial transactions, honour contractual agreements and promptly report suspected criminal activities to the police.

Members of the public can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free on 615 in emergencies or reach the Oyo State Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
