Ibadan Circular Road: Makinde Promises ₦6bn Compensation By October End, Insists On Setback Requirements
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s position on the setback requirements for the ongoing Ibadan Circular Road project, insisting that the government will maintain 75 metres on both sides of built-up areas and 500 metres on both sides of underdeveloped areas.
The governor also promised that his administration would pay between ₦6 billion and ₦7 billion in compensation to property owners affected by the project by the end of October 2026.
Makinde made the disclosures during a media chat on Fresh FM in Ibadan while responding to questions about the controversial Circular Road project. The programme was anchored by veteran journalist, Mayor Isaac Brown.
“The government will maintain 75 metres on both sides of built-up areas and 500 metres on both sides of underdeveloped areas,” Makinde said.
The governor’s remarks reaffirm his administration’s position on the setback distances along the road corridor, an issue that has generated concerns among residents and property owners whose properties may be affected by the project.
Makinde also gave an indication of the compensation package planned for affected property owners, stating that the government would pay between ₦6 billion and ₦7 billion by the end of October 2026.
“We will pay between ₦6 billion and ₦7 billion in compensation to affected property owners by the end of October 2026,” the governor said.
The proposed compensation, if paid within the stated timeframe, would represent a significant development for eligible property owners awaiting financial redress over properties affected by the project.
The Ibadan Circular Road project remains one of Oyo State’s major infrastructure initiatives. However, its implementation has continued to attract public attention, particularly over land acquisition, setback requirements and compensation for affected residents.
