Tinubu Seeks More Time To Complete Economic Reforms, Says Nigeria Is On Right Path

President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to give his administration more time to complete its ongoing programmes and reforms, assuring that the country would witness improved peace and development as the reforms continue.

Tinubu made the appeal on Friday in a message delivered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, at a special Juma’at prayer held at the National Mosque, Abuja, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The President, who was represented at the event by Abbas, said his administration was working to address what he described as cumulative mistakes and missed opportunities of previous governments.

Abbas, while conveying the President’s message, urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country’s economic recovery and development, noting that the 66th anniversary marked a significant milestone in the nation’s history.

He said Nigeria had experienced both challenges and opportunities since independence, adding that the country had matured despite the difficulties encountered over the years.

The President also called on Nigerians to remain hopeful about the future, saying his administration was addressing longstanding challenges and working towards improved conditions across the country.

“My message to the country on behalf of Mr President, the Senate President and all members of the National Assembly is that the citizens should not lose hope.

“Peace is coming back to this country. Development is coming back to this country. Things will get better as we progress in this democracy,” Abbas quoted Tinubu as saying.

Tinubu said the government was focused on correcting what he described as mistakes and missed opportunities accumulated over previous administrations.

He added that Nigerians had made significant sacrifices for the country and urged citizens to give his administration additional time to complete its programmes.

The President said, “More importantly, citizens should look at the focus of the government of today, that the mistakes of the past, the cumulative mistakes and the missed opportunities of the past, are being corrected in this particular administration.”

He further stated that Nigeria was on the right path, expressing confidence that the ongoing reforms would eventually produce better outcomes for the country.

“And I want to categorically make it clear that Nigeria is on the right path; that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and that Nigerians have finished making sacrifices for this country to be great again.

“We should give this government more opportunity for it to come back and finish the good work.”

The 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations are being observed on a low key basis, with the Federal Government scheduling religious and civic activities ahead of the October 1 anniversary.
