Oyo Police Arrest Security Guard Over Shooting In Ibadan, Recover Four Locally Made Guns
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old security guard, Oladapo Felix, in connection with the shooting of a resident of Zion Estate, Yakoya Area of Elewuro, Akobo, Ibadan.
The command also recovered four locally made single-barrel guns and a machete from the suspect’s duty post.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident occurred at about 4:00am on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
The victim, identified as Bolaji Oladipupo, reportedly came out of his residence to pump water when he heard the sound of a siren around his house.
The police said preliminary investigation revealed that Oladipupo went outside to ascertain the source of the noise but was confronted by the security guard.
The victim reportedly identified himself as a resident of the house but was allegedly shot by the security guard.
Following the report, police operatives from the Akobo Division visited the scene and subsequently arrested Felix, who resides in Zion Estate, Yakoya Area of Elewuro, Akobo, Ibadan.
The police said the suspect, during preliminary investigation, confessed to shooting the victim.
A search of his duty post led to the recovery of two serviceable locally made single-barrel guns, two unserviceable locally made single-barrel guns and a machete.
The recovered items have been secured as exhibits, the command said.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment and is responding to treatment, while investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The investigation is expected to determine what transpired immediately before the incident, the circumstances that led to the use of the firearm and how the recovered firearms came to be in the suspect’s possession.
The command, while acknowledging the contribution of private security guards and other members of the private security sector to the protection of lives and property in the state, urged them to remain professional, disciplined and emotionally restrained while carrying out their duties.
It advised security personnel to exercise sound judgment at all times and avoid allowing anger, provocation or other emotions to influence their actions, particularly in situations requiring restraint and de-escalation.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, has directed a thorough and professional investigation into the incident to establish all relevant facts and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
