FG Moves To Deploy New Communications Satellite, 200 Telecom Towers

The Federal Government is set to deploy a new communications satellite as part of efforts to expand digital connectivity and strengthen Nigeria’s telecommunications infrastructure.

The satellite deployment is expected to improve access to communication services, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach areas, while supporting the country’s growing demand for broadband and other digital services.

As part of the broader expansion programme, the government also plans to deploy about 200 new telecommunications base towers across the country before the end of December.

The twin initiatives are aimed at addressing gaps in telecommunications infrastructure and improving network coverage and service delivery to Nigerians. The additional infrastructure is also expected to support businesses, government institutions and communities that rely increasingly on digital connectivity.

The communications satellite is expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity in areas including broadband connectivity and other satellite-based communication services, while reducing connectivity limitations in locations where terrestrial infrastructure remains difficult to deploy.

The planned deployment of the satellite and base towers forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to deepen digital inclusion and strengthen the country’s communications infrastructure.

The projects are expected to extend reliable communication services to more communities and further support Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
