Again, TCN Announces Fresh Blackout in Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a fresh electricity outage affecting parts of Abuja.

TCN disclosed this in a notice issued on Wednesday, explaining that the outage was caused by the tripping of a 100MVA power transformer at the Apo 132kV/33kV Transmission Substation.

According to the company, oil spillage on the red-phase high-voltage bushing of the transformer resulted in the tripping and affected four 33kV feeders — H31, H33, H35 and H37.

TCN said its maintenance team had commenced investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident and facilitate repairs and restoration of the transformer.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, hereby informs the public that the 100MVA TR4 transformer at the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation tripped in the early hours of today.

“Our maintenance crew are already carrying out a detailed investigation on the transformer to ascertain the exact cause of the tripping, to enable us effect repairs and restore the transformer,” TCN stated.

Following the incident, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed a power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

Areas affected include Apo Legislative Quarters, Lokogoma, Apo Resettlement and other parts of Abuja.

The latest outage comes barely a day after TCN announced a blackout in parts of the nation’s capital due to scheduled maintenance work.

TCN had on Tuesday announced a six-hour maintenance exercise that was expected to affect electricity supply to some areas of Abuja.
