Bandits Kill Two, Abduct 26 in Kaduna Communities

Bandits have attacked communities in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing two people, injuring one and abducting 26 others, the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KadVS) has said.

The Public Relations Officer of KadVS, Yunusa Shehu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Shehu said the attacks occurred in Tunburku, Tudun Amada and Kallon Kura communities in the local government area, with the assailants also rustling cattle belonging to residents in separate incidents.

According to him, the bandits attacked Tunburku in Kidandan District and Tudun Amada in Kadage District almost simultaneously in the early hours of Monday.

He said two residents, identified as Alhaji Surajo and Alhaji Ado, were killed in Tunburku, while 26 residents were abducted in Tudun Amada.

Shehu added that another resident, Ayyuba Usman, sustained injuries during the attacks, which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

In a separate incident, the bandits invaded Kura in Danmahawayi District at about 9 p.m. on Saturday and rustled cattle belonging to residents.

Shehu said between 15 and 17 cattle were initially reported stolen, adding that efforts were ongoing to establish the actual number taken.

He further said the attackers invaded Kallon Kura in Danmahawayi District during the night and rustled cattle before security personnel mobilised to the area.

Following intelligence on the movement of the bandits and the stolen cattle, KadVS personnel mobilised to track the attackers and recover the animals.

The security personnel reportedly engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat and abandon the cattle before fleeing the area.

A security source told the News Agency of Nigeria that 19 cattle were subsequently recovered from the bandits at about midnight on Saturday, September 5.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of the KadVS Sector Coordinator in Giwa Local Government Area, who led the personnel during the recovery exercise.

When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan, said he would provide further clarification after obtaining details of the attacks.

However, as of the time of filing the report, Hassan had yet to provide the additional information.
