‘How Fake Made-in-Nigeria Agency Tricked Us’ — Anambra Govt
The Anambra State Government has revealed how it was allegedly misled into planning a regional fair in collaboration with the recently exposed fake Made-in-Nigeria Agency.
The agency was recently exposed as fake and non-existent, prompting questions over its activities and interactions with state governments and other public institutions.
The Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, explained that the state had been preparing to host the South-East Made-in-Nigeria Fair in December following official correspondence it received from the purported agency.
Nnake, who was nominated as the state’s Focal Person for the agency, said Governor Chukwuma Soludo nominated her in February 2026 after the state received a request from the organisation for the nomination of a representative.
She made the clarification after her photograph went viral on social media, with reports identifying her as one of the State Coordinators of the purported agency.
According to Nnake, the process began in January 2026 when the governor received a letter from the Made-in-Nigeria Office, which claimed to operate under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, requesting that each state nominate a Focal Person.
“In January 2026, the Governor received a letter from the Made-in-Nigeria Office, said to be under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, requesting the nomination of a State Focal Person. In response, the Governor, in February 2026, nominated me as the State Focal Person for Anambra State,” she said.
Nnake explained that following the nominations, Focal Persons from the 36 states were added to a WhatsApp group where they engaged in discussions concerning the activities and programmes of the purported office.
She said the state subsequently received another communication requesting that Anambra host the South-East Made-in-Nigeria Fair, a proposal which was approved by the state government.
According to her, an inaugural meeting was subsequently held about two weeks ago, with the purported National Coordinator in attendance, while preparations for the event commenced thereafter.
She said the fair was scheduled to hold from December 2 to 5, 2026, adding that a state committee had already commenced preparations before the organisation was exposed as fake.
“Since then, the State Committee has been working on preparations for the fair, which is scheduled to take place from December 2 to 5, 2026,” Nnake stated.
The Secretary to the State Government, however, stressed that her involvement was limited strictly to the official engagements initiated through the state government and that she had no knowledge of any other activities allegedly linked to the purported agency.
“Beyond these official interactions and engagements, I have no knowledge of, involvement in, or connection with any other activities, claims, or developments attributed to the said office,” she said.
Nnake further stated that any activities or claims beyond the official interactions she outlined were completely outside her knowledge and involvement.
“I, therefore, wish to make it clear that anything beyond the above-mentioned official interactions is entirely outside my knowledge and involvement,” she added.
The clarification is expected to provide context to the circumstances surrounding the state government’s engagement with the purported agency and Nnake’s role after her photograph emerged in connection with the organisation.
The development has also raised concerns over the need for government institutions to thoroughly verify the identity and status of organisations seeking official partnerships, particularly those claiming affiliation with federal authorities.
