Ooni, South-West Monarchs to Meet Igboho Over Regional Security

South-West traditional rulers, led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, are set to meet with Yoruba nation activist and founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to deliberate on security and peaceful coexistence in the region.

The meeting is scheduled to hold on Friday in Ijero Ekiti, Ekiti State, and will be hosted by the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Adewole. The gathering is expected to bring together traditional rulers and other stakeholders from across the South-West, including Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states, as well as parts of Kwara State.

According to a statement from Igboho’s media office, the meeting will focus on measures to strengthen security across Yorubaland, sustain peace and promote communal stability, particularly in rural communities that may be vulnerable to security challenges.

The stakeholders are also expected to discuss the involvement of traditional rulers in local security, given their closeness to the grassroots and their roles in preventing conflicts and resolving disputes involving different communities. The meeting will further explore ways of improving cooperation between local security initiatives and established security agencies.

The organisers said the initiative would complement the efforts of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Department of State Services and other security agencies, while encouraging greater collaboration among traditional institutions, communities and security stakeholders to sustain peace and safety across the South-West.
