FG Declares Tuesday Public Holiday for Eid ul Mawlid
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Friday by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion, urging them to use the celebration as an opportunity to reflect on the values of compassion, humility, service and peaceful coexistence associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The minister said the lessons of Eid ul Mawlid remained relevant to the country, particularly at a time when Nigerians needed to strengthen mutual understanding and promote national unity.
“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He urged Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, national cohesion and the continued progress of the country, stressing that maintaining unity was a collective responsibility.
Tunji-Ojo also called on citizens to celebrate the festival with restraint and mutual respect, while wishing the Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid ul Mawlid.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu administration to protecting lives and property and sustaining peace across the country.
