GMT 2027 Mobilises Support for Tinubu, Oyo APC Ahead Presidential-Governorship Elections, Pledges 2m Votes
The Grassroots Movement for Tinubu, GMT 2027, has commenced grassroots mobilisation and strategic engagements across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in the state, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.
The movement held a strategic meeting on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the Old Bodija area of Ibadan, where members and supporters reviewed plans for grassroots mobilisation and pledged their commitment to ensuring electoral victory for the President and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
The meeting was attended by the Oyo State APC Women’s Leader, Dr. Olukemi Opatunde; Oyo State Director General of GMT, Alhaja Aminat Romoke Oparemi-Opason; Director of GMT, Dr. Olukunle Abiola; and Director of Information, Engineer Aderoju Oluyemi, alongside other members and supporters of the movement.
Speaking on the objective of the gathering, the Director of Information, Engineer Aderoju Oluyemi, said the meeting was aimed at strengthening the movement at the grassroots and creating greater awareness of its activities across the state.
Oluyemi said GMT had established structures across the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State and was determined to ensure that the Federal Government recognised the movement as a formidable grassroots political organisation.
He declared that the movement was targeting two million votes for President Tinubu from Oyo State in the 2027 presidential election, while assuring other APC candidates of the group’s support.
“We are committed to delivering two million votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from Oyo State. We will also support all APC candidates contesting various elective positions because our objective is to ensure victory for the party at all levels,” Oluyemi said.
According to him, the strength of the movement lies in its grassroots network, adding that members would continue to engage residents and mobilise support for the Tinubu administration and the APC ahead of the elections.
Also speaking, the GMT Director, Dr. Olukunle Abiola, said the meeting was primarily focused on mobilising members and developing strategies for the next phase of political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Abiola urged APC members to remain united, stressing that unity within the party would be critical to securing victory in the Oyo State governorship election and other contests.
“This is a time for mobilisation, unity and strategic planning. We must remain focused and work together as members of the same political family to achieve victory in the coming elections,” he said.
The Oyo State APC Women’s Leader, Dr. Olukemi Opatunde, also called on residents to support efforts aimed at strengthening the relationship between the party and the people of the state.
She appealed to party members and the electorate to embrace reconciliation and unity, saying greater understanding between political leaders and the people would help build wider support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The State Director General of GMT, Alhaja Aminat Romoke Oparemi-Opason, said the gathering was also intended to demonstrate the organisational capacity of the movement and its ability to mobilise voters across the state.
She said GMT would intensify its grassroots activities in the coming months, with particular attention to mobilising supporters and expanding the movement’s reach across the 33 local government areas.
“This gathering is a demonstration of our strength and capacity at the grassroots. We are prepared to work and mobilise our people across Oyo State for the candidates we believe in,” the Director General said.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for members to discuss strategies for strengthening the movement and ensuring effective coordination of its activities ahead of the 2027 electoral season.
The organisers maintained that the movement would continue to engage stakeholders and supporters while working to build a broad grassroots base capable of translating its political support into votes during the elections.
The GMT 2027 meeting comes as political activities and mobilisation intensify across Oyo State, with various political groups and candidates beginning to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
