Osun Election Voting Ends as INEC Begins Sorting, Counting of Ballots
Voting has ended at several polling units across Osun State as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, begins sorting and counting ballots in the 2026 governorship election.
The exercise, which commenced in the morning across the state’s 30 local government areas, witnessed significant voter turnout, with voters coming out to elect the next governor of the state.
Governor Ademola Adeleke cast his ballot at Ward 02, Unit 09, Sagba Agbogunde in Ede North Local Government Area.
After voting, the governor expressed confidence in the electoral process and urged voters across the state to remain peaceful and conduct themselves responsibly as voting continued.
Also, the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, also participated in the election, expressing confidence in his chances of victory.
The APC candidate urged voters to remain peaceful and exercise their civic responsibility, while calling on electoral and security authorities to ensure a level playing field for all contestants.
Similarly, the Nigeria Police Force has stepped up security arrangements across Osun State to ensure a peaceful and credible exercise.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu assured residents of the readiness of the police to provide adequate security during and after the election.
The election has largely recorded peaceful voting in many parts of Osun, with voters turning out to exercise their franchise.
However, there were pockets of tension and disruptions at some locations, including an incident involving the discharge of tear gas at a Registration Area Centre in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area of the state.
