Police Summon Osun Senator Over Alleged Death Threat Against Opposition

The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over an alleged death threat against members of the opposition Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed on Wednesday that Fadahunsi had been summoned by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Samuel Etaifo. He said the command would issue a statement on the matter.

Fadahunsi came under criticism after a video circulated on social media in which he was allegedly heard threatening that Accord Party members seen in Ilesa before the election would be killed. The remarks were reportedly made at the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland during a protest over the alleged killing of three APC members in Ilesa.

Reacting to the alleged threat, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke called for Fadahunsi’s arrest, saying the remarks could trigger violence and mass killings. Adeleke said he had reported the matter to Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, who, according to the governor, confirmed the existence of the video and assured him of immediate action.

However, Fadahunsi denied threatening opposition members, saying his remarks had been taken out of context. He claimed that an edited portion of a much longer speech was circulated to portray him negatively, maintaining that he was warning that APC members would defend themselves if further killings occurred.

Meanwhile, Francis Eniade, the APC candidate for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo Otin Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, also came under criticism after a separate video showed him allegedly warning non-APC supporters against coming out to vote in Odo Otin Local Government Area on election day.
