Police Release Osun Environment Commissioner After Arrest Over APC Rally Shooting

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the release of the state Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Moyowa Adejoorin, who was arrested following a shooting incident at an All Progressives Congress rally in Ilesa.

Adejoorin was arrested after the incident at the APC rally on Saturday, during which four people were reportedly injured, including a teenager identified as Tobi Ilesanmi.

The police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the commissioner was arrested after security operatives cordoned off the scene and recovered some exhibits, including expended cartridges and Amotekun personnel caps.

Ojelabi said Adejoorin’s vehicle was also stopped at the scene alongside an Amotekun personnel who was allegedly involved in the shooting.

He said, “Immediately the incident was reported, our personnel moved to the scene and cordoned off the area before some exhibits were recovered, which included expended cartridges and Amotekun personnel caps.

“Also, Mr Adejoorin was arrested at the scene and taken to the command for questioning as part of the investigation process.”

However, a video surfaced on social media on Sunday showing the commissioner leaving the police command.

Speaking with Vanguard, Ojelabi confirmed that Adejoorin had been released on bail but said he was yet to provide an update on the Amotekun personnel who was arrested alongside him.

“It is true that the commissioner has been released on bail today, but I am yet to clear the situation with the Amotekun personnel arrested with him,” he said.

The police have yet to disclose further details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
